What’s Your Why? Kyle Upper

Why do you support HomeAid Atlanta?

I had never heard of HomeAid when I was approached by Russ Beymer in 2018 as President of K.Hovnanian in Orlando, Florida.  HomeAid was launching their inaugural Board for Orlando, and Russ was having a hard time filling out the Board.  As soon as I heard about the organization I pledged my involvement on the spot.  HomeAid’s ability to leverage industry knowledge, connections, and sub-contractor base with real-time and real-life impacts was a combination I knew was a winning formula and something with which I could make an impact.  I remember my first HomeAid project was a simple kitchen pantry expansion.  The volunteers were all too glad to help.  That small improvement cost very little in actual materials and labor but it made very large impacts.  Not only did it greatly improve the quality of life for residents in the shelter facility, but it freed up additional funding for the facility as the completed kitchen cleared hurdles for additional dollars.  The power of HomeAid leverage in a nutshell.

Fast forward to 2022, and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to relocate to Atlanta as President of Stanley Martin.  Before even making the move, I contacted Mandy Crater, HomeAid Atlanta Executive Director, and volunteered my services to the HomeAid Atlanta Board.  Even though I knew I wouldn’t have the same connections initially, it was impossible for me to not be involved.  I knew the power of HomeAid leverage.  The daily impacts that HomeAid makes are irresistible.  Much to my delight, Mandy and her team are deeply connected to the community and the scope of the projects are even greater - more opportunities and, of course, more needs.

The real estate and home building industry has been great for me and my family.   Giving back through those same industries just feels right.  And good.
