2021 Essentials Drive

 2021 Essentials Drive

April 1 – May 5, 2021

HomeAid Atlanta’s 20th Annual Essentials Drive wrapped up on May 7. This year, the annual drive to collect essential baby items for families in need brought in over 225,000 items - a new record!  Generous companies and individuals donated new packages of diapers and baby wipes, as well as funds, from April 1 – May 5. HomeAid volunteers processed and packed the items on May 6. On Friday, May 7, HomeAid staff, volunteers, UPS employees, and two UPS trucks assisted with distribution to 23 nonprofits serving families with infants or toddlers experiencing or at risk for homelessness, just in time for Mother’s Day.

We are proud of this community-wide effort and grateful for the support of our Essentials Drive donors and volunteers!

The Essentials Drive is HomeAid’s annual community-wide drive to collect “essentials” like diapers and baby wipes for families with infants and toddlers who are experiencing homelessness. This year is the 20th anniversary of the Essentials Drive, which is conducted in conjunction with Mother’s Day, providing a great opportunity to help mothers and babies in need. Sadly, an estimated 5,700 people in Metro Atlanta are homeless on any given night and almost 50% are women and children. Thanks to the support of people like you, this drive has collected over 1,350,000 essential baby items, assisting hundreds of moms and babies in the metro Atlanta area.

Essentials items needed:

Diapers, pull-ups and overnights (all sizes) and unscented baby wipes. Gift cards (ex. Target and Walmart) are also accepted.

Can I donate online?

Yes! Each year HomeAid provides online baby registries through Amazon and Target so that anyone can support the drive from the comfort of your home!

Are there any items that are not accepted?

Yes, unfortunately we cannot accept used items. All items must be new and in original packaging.

Where do the collected items go?

All items collected are distributed to local nonprofit organizations serving homeless families and children. Several of these organizations operate facilities built in partnership with HomeAid Atlanta.

“Without being able to meet the basic physical needs of our children, we would not be able to work beyond that to meet their social, emotional, and educational/developmental needs. This allows us to work with children and their families to reach a place where they are no longer concerned for day to day necessities, but contributing to society and living lives that go beyond their next meal, diaper, or bath." - Stacey B. Jones, Children's Services Leader, Atlanta Mission

"HomeAid Atlanta has truly gone above and beyond in supporting our families here at City of Refuge. Thank you for supporting our mission and bringing light, hope and transformation to our families that are in need." - Regina Holloway, Residential Service Advocate, City of Refuge
